In the U.S. today, demand for supplementary cementitious materials such as coal ash, slag cement, natural pozzolans and others has been very strong and, in some regions, running ahead of supply. For the last several years, approximately 10 to 15 million tons of fluidized bed combustion (FBC) ash has been produced annually from coal-fueled power plants using fluidized bed technology. This ash has been used primarily for mining applications and waste stabilization. Some limited use in concrete mixtures and production of portland cement has been reported. However, FBC ash is currently not approved for use in concrete in AASHTO M295 or ASTM C618.
Recently, there has been increased interest in investigating FBC use in concrete mixtures. This webinar will focus on the research of Dr. Farshad Rajabipour, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State University. Dr. Rajabipour will discuss his findings and suggest revisions to AASHTO M295 and ASTM C618 which would permit FBC ash to be used in concrete mixtures. Professor Emeritus Larry Sutter, Michigan Technicalogical University will be the moderator.
